Afternoon tea at Elsie May’s Electric Lounge
- posted in: Blog

Elsie May’s is a family-run cafe and bar in the market town of St Neots. It is in a wonderful location just off the market square. A lovely relaxed setting, hidden from the hustle and bustle of life, it’s a perfect spot to escape to.
The Style
We enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea with a plethora of sweet and savoury offerings. In fact so much food we went home with some. The team at Elsie May’s are so attentive, and proud of the products they bake and you can tell.
The building was built in 1927 and opened in 1929 as the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Huntingdonshire Electricity Company Showroom.
This building was designed to show off the wonders of electricity and to try to convince people that gas-powered lamps were a thing of the past. It’s believed this is why BC & HE Co. made a statement with this building with high ceilings, oak parquet floors and large windows and offers such a wonderful environment to dine in.
The Food
The delicious afternoon high tea included a selection of sandwiches, a variety of homemade cakes & a scone with clotted cream & jam served with your choice of tea, coffee or soft drink.
What’s in the traditional high tea?
Sandwiches (made with homemade white & granary bread): cheese & chutney, tuna mayo, ham & tomato & egg mayo.
Scone: Fruit or plain with jam & clotted cream
Sweets: chocolate brownie, shortbread & a cupcake
The food was delicious and very good value for £15.00 per head we both left with a selection of to enjoy at home. So our top tip would book and go with an empty tummy. It is a very generous afternoon tea.
We are very much looking forward to another visit.
