Chosen Bun – Delivering the Ultimate Burger to Cambridge

Opening this week, Chosen Bun is the new burger restaurant in Cambridge offering the ultimate burger experience. Not something new, we might hear you say, but Chosen Bun have (literally) been to space and back to ensure they deliver the ultimate burger to their customers.  Grub Club Cambridge were very excited to be invited along to the preview evening where Cat got a chance to experience just what they had to offer.

There aren’t many people, who don’t enjoy a great burger, that’s why there are burger restaurants popping up all over the place. But, just like Pete and Andy, founders of Chosen Bun, burger lovers are often left feeling disappointed at soggy buns. In their quest to develop their brand, they spent years tasting countless ingredients, developing and testing their own patented packaging, with the definitive goal to deliver the ultimate burger to customers’ doors in perfect shape, every time.

Located on Hills Road, just a short walk from the city center, Chosen Bun sits proudly on its little corner plot, amongst a multitude of other restaurants. So, what’s going to make you step inside? From my experience, it’s the Salted Caramel Moonshake, the mouthwatering burgers or the amazing Mark’ & Cheese Bites!

During the preview evening, we had the chance to sample the wonderful selection of sides including: Mark’ & Cheese Bites (fried garlic macaroni & cheese coated in panko breadcrumbs), the sizable Onyeung rings (onion rings also coated in panko breadcrumbs), Kingdom wings (confit chicken wings, coated in a choice of sauce) and finally, Chosen chips (triple-cooked and tossed in rosemary sea-salt) which, as promised were intensely fluffy with a delicious crispy shell.

There’s an interesting range of sauces to accompany the sides, I would encourage you to give them a try, you will definitely be pleasantly surprised. The range includes; Banana Ketchup, Truffle Mayo, Garrick Aioli (garlic mayo), Chosen Burger Sauce (super-secret recipe), Naga Chilli & Chipotle Mayo (yum!), Buffalo sauce, Whiskey maple BBQ Sauce, Stoke BBQ Sauce and a House blue cheese dressing.

The flame finished burgers didn’t disappoint, the substantial patty was carefully stacked between a layer of sauce and a selection of relishes to maintain the texture of the bun and achieved a great balance the flavours. Choosing which burger to have could be an issue, as there’s a great selection to tempt you with; you can stay traditional with a Chosen Burger or Chosen Cheesy, heat things up with a Chilli Winston, opt for a smokey style with a BBQ Eastwoody, choose between two chicken options or select the vegetarian Edemamy Burger. All are served in a soft brioche roll, or there’s also a Gluten free bun option too. And, if you are still struggling to decide – why not build your own Ultimate Burger.

The real surprise for me was the Moonshake. Not a lover of milk shakes, or even a big pudding person, I was extremely surprised to have consumed a whole Salted Caramel Moonshake. Cleverly served in a reusable glass jam jar (a constant reminder of your new favourite delivered burger service), these moreish Moonshake’s are a must have! Choose from Oreo Cookies, Indy Squash, Vanilla Miller, Ferrero Roshake, Banoffeigh-Pie, Hard-Shake (with a hit of dark rum), or my personal favourite the Salted Caramel (made from top quality Italian vanilla Gelato and Joe & Steph’s award winning Salted Caramel Sauce).

So, if you are still thinking this is just another burger restaurant, the real unique selling point of the Chosen Bun is in the delivery. With 3 electric bikes and an army of staff waiting to take your order the Chosen Bun aim to deliver to your door within 30 mins or less.
